Leeds roofers for slate, tile, dormer and flat roofs

Proline Roofers Leeds is a roofing contractor working across Leeds, West Yorkshire, from Otley and Horsforth in the north-west to Garforth, Morley and Rothwell. We repair and replace slate and tiled roofs, roof dormers and loft conversions, renew flat roofs, rebuild chimney flashings and leadwork, and replace guttering, fascias and soffits. Call 0113 490 0270 to arrange a quote.

Leeds roofs come in a few familiar types. Long rows of red-brick terraces and back-to-backs carry Welsh slate and shared chimney stacks. Stone villas around Headingley, Roundhay and Chapel Allerton have bigger slate roofs with lead valleys. Inter-war semis in places like Moortown, Crossgates and Bramley are mostly clay or concrete tile, and newer estates use interlocking tiles with dry-fix ridges and verges.

Whichever one is over your head, we start by finding exactly where the problem is, explain it in plain English, and quote for the work that actually needs doing.

Roofing on Leeds terraces and back-to-backs

Leeds kept building back-to-back houses longer than almost anywhere else in England, well into the 1930s, and thousands are still lived in around Harehills, Beeston, Holbeck, Burley and Armley. Along with the through-terraces around them, most were roofed in Welsh slate on timber battens, with brick chimney stacks shared along the row.

The slate itself usually outlasts the nails holding it. Once those nails rust through, slates start to slide out of their courses, and you’ll spot them on the path or sitting crooked on the slope. A handful can be refixed. When it’s happening across a whole slope, stripping and re-slating, reusing sound slates where we can, is often the better answer.

Because terrace roofs run into each other, we take care at the party wall line and with shared chimneys and gutters, so a repair on your slope doesn’t cause a problem next door.

Dormers and loft conversion roofs

Turning the loft into a bedroom is one of the most common ways Leeds families make room, and the roofing is where a conversion either stays dry for decades or doesn’t. We handle the roof side: the dormer’s own roof, the cheeks and front clad in tile or slate, lead aprons and soakers where it meets the main roof, and re-tiling the main slope so it all ties in.

  • Flat and pitched dormer roofs
  • Tile-hanging and slate cladding on dormer faces
  • Lead aprons, soakers and cheek flashings
  • Roof windows fitted and flashed in
  • Hip-to-gable roofs re-tiled to match

Why Leeds homeowners call Proline

Every kind of Leeds roof

Slate terraces, tiled semis, dormers, flat-roofed extensions and new builds, all handled by the same team.

The cause, not the symptom

A damp patch is traced to where water actually gets in, whether that’s a slate, a flashing, a valley or a gutter.

Straight quotes

A repair is quoted as a repair. A new roof is only suggested when the old one has genuinely had its day.

Tidy sites

Old slates, lead offcuts and packaging leave with us, and your yard or drive is swept before we go.

Questions about your roof

What Leeds homeowners ask us most.

What roofing work do you do in Leeds?

Roof repairs, full re-roofs in slate or tile, the roofing side of dormers and loft conversions, roof windows, flat roofs, chimney repairs and leadwork, guttering, fascias and soffits, and urgent repairs after storm damage. We work on terraces, semis, detached houses, bungalows, extensions and garages.

How do I get a roofing quote?

Phone 0113 490 0270 or use the quick quote form near the top of this page. Give us your name, number, postcode and a short description of the problem, and we'll be in touch to arrange a visit. There's no obligation.

Do you work on Victorian terraces and back-to-backs?

Yes. Brick terraces with slate roofs make up a big share of Leeds housing, and slipped slates, tired ridges, chimney flashings and valley gutters on those roofs are a regular part of our work.

Can you do the roof on my dormer or loft conversion?

Yes. We handle the roofing side: dormer roofs, tile-hung or slate-clad dormer cheeks, lead aprons and soakers, re-tiling the main slope around the dormer, and roof windows. If your builder is doing the structure, we can work alongside them.

Is a repair enough, or do I need a new roof?

It depends on the whole roof, not just the damaged patch. If the rest of the covering is sound, a repair makes sense. If slates are slipping across a whole slope or the underlay has perished, a re-roof usually works out better. We'll explain what we see either way.

Can you come out quickly after storm damage?

Call 0113 490 0270 and tell us what's happened. Phoning is quicker than the form for anything urgent. We'll tell you when we can get there and how to keep things safe in the meantime.

Do you repair and replace flat roofs?

Yes, on extensions, garages, dormers and porches, including felt, GRP and EPDM. We check the deck under the covering as well as the surface, and we can fit rooflights on raised upstands.

Which parts of Leeds do you cover?

The whole city and its suburbs, including Headingley, Chapel Allerton, Roundhay, Horsforth, Pudsey, Bramley, Morley, Rothwell, Garforth, Crossgates and out to Otley and Guiseley. Call with your postcode if you're not sure.

Will you leave the property tidy?

Yes. Old slates and tiles, lead offcuts, packaging and debris are taken away when the job's finished, and paths and yards are cleared before we leave.
