Re-Roofing in Leeds
When repairs keep coming back, a new roof covering puts a stop to it. Stripped back, new membrane and battens, and finished in slate or tile.

Proline Roofers Leeds strips and re-roofs houses, bungalows and extensions across Leeds in natural slate, man-made slate, and clay or concrete tiles. Call 0113 490 0270 to arrange a survey and a written quote.

Signs it might be time
A roof doesn’t need replacing just because it’s old. It needs replacing when the covering or what’s holding it has failed across the slope. Typical signs are slates sliding out in several places every winter, tiles that have gone soft and flaky, felt in the loft that’s torn or brittle, and repeat leaks in different spots. If we think a repair will do, we’ll say so.
Matching the roof to the house
On Leeds terraces we normally re-roof in slate to keep the row looking right, reusing sound slates where it makes sense. Inter-war semis and bungalows usually go back in tile, and we can match colour and profile to neighbouring roofs. If your house is in one of Leeds’ conservation areas, such as parts of Headingley, Chapel Allerton or Roundhay, changing the roofing material may need permission from Leeds City Council, so it’s worth checking first.
Roof windows while the roof is open
A re-roof is the cheapest time to add a roof window, because the slope is already stripped and the flashing kit goes in with the new covering. The red tile roof below had two fitted during the re-roof.

Re-roofing: your questions
How long does a re-roof take?
Most house re-roofs take a few days to a couple of weeks depending on size, access and weather. We'll give you an expected timescale with the quote.
Can you reuse my existing slates?
Often, yes. Good natural slates can be stripped, sorted and relaid, with new slates making up the shortfall. We'll tell you how many look reusable once we see them.
Do I need planning permission to re-roof?
Replacing a roof like for like usually doesn't. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, or you want to change the material, check with Leeds City Council first.
Can you add roof windows during a re-roof?
Yes. It's the easiest time to do it. Tell us how many and roughly where, and we'll include them in the quote.
What happens if it rains during the job?
We only strip what can be made watertight the same day, and the membrane goes on before we leave. Sheeting is kept on site for sudden showers.
